His name is Gordon VanGilder and he is a retired school teacher. He's never been in trouble with the law, yet this 72-year-old has found himself in quite a legal mess.  He was transporting an unloaded mid-1700s firearm in his vehicle. It was an ornate flintlock pistol. He told the New Jersey police on a routine stop that the pistol was in the vehicle and now he's being charged the same as anyone carrying, let's say a .45 for protection or crime.

New Jersey police and politicians deserve all the credit for getting another 300-year-old, antique, flintlock pistol out of the hands of 72-year-old gang-bangers. Pft. It starts with politicians telling us they are passing laws to “protect the children” and it ends up with grandpa in slammer for possession of an antique flintlock pistol.
