You can burn sparklers this 4th of July in Cortland, but drive a few miles away and get into Binghamton, and you'll be sited.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York state legislators last year passed a law that would allow sparklers, party poppers and cone fountains to be sold, possessed and fired up in New York around the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve if the local county government allows it.

Firefighters across counties have raised questions about storage of the sparklers due to the fact that stores are on;y allowed to sell them once or twice a year. Thirty days before the Fourth of July and 10 days before New Year's Eve.

Sparklers can burn hot enough to burn kid fingers, So if you do take the trek to you're buddies house on Cortland, please be careful!
