My husband and I love the fact that we can travel just over three hours and be in our own personal paradise at our secluded lakeside cabin in Canada. What we don't love is the cost of gas once we cross the border.

Did you know that gas is sold by the liter in Canada, rather than by the gallon? Gas prices have skyrocketed in Canada this summer with the price of a liter of gas hovering right around $1.60 which translates to $5.00 a gallon in U.S. funds and nearly $60 for us to fill our gas tank, double what we would pay to fill up in the States.

In New York, the average cost for a gallon of gas is $2.72 and in Pennsylvania, the average cost is $2.70 (yes, not all of PA is as expensive as around here). So, to fill up let's say a vehicle that holds 12 gallons of gas, the price would be around $35.

I don't know about you, but I wish we could go back to the days where we could fill up our tank with enough gas to get us where we needed to go and back with just the change that we found in the couch cushions. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see those days again.

Feel like your bank account weeps each time you have to pay for gas? Know before you go and save some money. You might not save a ton, but every little bit helps, right? With Labor Day right around the corner and some last-minute road-tripping on your agenda, here's where you'll find the cheapest gas in the Southern Tier:
