Grocery store employees are among those working the front-line during the coronavirus crisis, and Wegmans is giving back to their essential employees by raising their pay.

According to WGRZ, Wegmans spokesperson Michele Mehaffy said employees will be paid additional $2 an hour through April "for all the hard work during this crisis."

Wegmans has also implemented other new practices to ensure a healthier environment for both employees and customers. There is a red line at the end of each checkout line, and customers must stay behind the line until they are given instructions from cashiers to move forward. This gives cashiers time between transactions to sanitize checkout lane.

Currently, central New York locations have reduced hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and have implemented purchase limits on some popular items. You can read up on all of the steps Wegmans is taking to combat the coronavirus on its website.
