New York State officials say the number of people infected with the coronavirus in October was roughly double the number in September.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the increase in numbers in New York has been slower than in some other states but there are what he called “danger signs all around us” as cases around the world have been going up with people letting down their guard after more than six months dealing with the pandemic.

New York State reported 14 more deaths in the November 2 update and 1,633 additional cases for a total of 511,368 since the start of the pandemic in March.

Broome County’s COVID-19 death toll is now over 100.  County Executive Jason Garnar announced November 2 a woman in her 60s and a man in his 90s succumbed to the disease bringing the pandemic death toll in the county to 101.  Broome reported 22 additional cases for a total of 3,619.

Tioga County also reports another death attributed to COVID-19.  Tioga’s death toll is at 33 with an addition of 27 cases bringing the total to 721.

Chenango County reported 17 new cases for a total of 425 and 7 deaths. Cortland County reported six new cases for a total of 866 but the death toll officially remains at one and Delaware County added two cases in its November 2 report for a total of 182 cases and 9 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
