People who have enjoyed strolls on the campus of a Vestal nursing home are being advised to walk elsewhere because of coronavirus concerns.

The site of the Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center had become an attractive spot for neighbors to walk in recent years.

But the facility recently posted several signs warning: "No community members permitted on facility grounds until further notice."

A nursing home representative Tuesday said the action was taken to protect facility residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A few weeks ago, the Vestal facility was identified by Broome County officials as a coronavirus "hot spot" because several cases had been confirmed at the nursing home.
