Upstate NY Hiker Ambushed by US Marshals for Looking Like Brian Laundrie
I don't care where you live in the United States if you're tall, in your twenties, somewhat thin, have some tattoos and a prematurely bald head, chances are that someone, somewhere, thought for a split second you looked like Brian Laundrie, the man wanted for the death of Gabby Petito last month.
When Severin Beckwith was with his girlfriend Anna Brettmann recently, someone must have thought the Ithaca-native was a wanted man, because shortly after their hiking expedition down on the Appalachian Trail Beckwith told the New Yorker that he was ambushed by US Marshals who thought he was Laundrie.
According to the source, Beckwith and Brettmann were taking a snooze at the Lodge at Fontana Village Resort after lunch when all of a sudden, they were woken up by the sounds of banging, followed by the ambush by US Marshals.
“Next thing I see is a bunch of guys with riot shields with ‘US Marshals’ written on them, handguns pointed at my face,” Beckwith told the New Yorker.

Beckwith told the New Yorker that one of the feds was actually helping him get dressed while others checked his identity to see how closely he resembled the man wanted for murder by strangulation. After the Upstate man produced proper ID, US Marshals eased up a bit.
Once Beckwith was cleared, he told sources that the lodge provided him and his girlfriend with a free night's stay and complimentary breakfast.
