It might feel like summer is slipping away, the back to school sales are on and the nights are getting cooler, but don’t pack it in just yet.
County fair season is still going strong in Upstate New York and there are plenty of events within a few hours from home that are perfect for family outings. From carnival rides and tractor pulls to fair food and fireworks, here’s your go to list of upcoming fairs to end the summer on a high note.
Tioga County Fair, Owego
Just about 20 minutes from Binghamton, the Tioga County Fair in Owego is in full swing from August 5 through 9 at Marvin Park. This one’s got all the classic fair charm: livestock competitions, live music, games, and a midway full of rides and funnel cakes. It’s a favorite for Southern Tier families looking for a fun, budget friendly day out.
Chenango County Fair, Norwich
From August 6 to 10, the Chenango County Fair brings the action to Norwich. Held at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, this event features 4-H showcases, tractor pulls, local food vendors, and a welcoming community vibe that makes it worth the short drive.
Afton Fair, Afton
Running the same dates as Tioga, August 5 to 9, the Afton Fair is another great nearby option for families. Located at 46 E Main Street in Afton, this fair brings together agricultural exhibits, kid-friendly activities, and a laid-back atmosphere. It’s one of those small-town fairs where you’re likely to run into neighbors and classmates.
Delaware County Fair, Walton
The Delaware County Fair is happening August 11 to 16 in Walton. It’s one of the largest agricultural fairs in the region and features a huge lineup of events including a demolition derby, livestock shows, music, and plenty of midway fun. This one’s worth the trip for an all-day family adventure.
Schoharie Sunshine Fair, Cobleskill
The Schoharie County Sunshine Fair runs August 5 through 10 at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds. It’s a great choice if you’re looking to make a longer day trip out of it. They’ve got everything from draft horse pulls to carnival rides and nightly grandstand shows.
Altamont Fair, Altamont

Herkimer County Fair, Frankfort

Trumansburg Fair, Trumansburg

Fonda Fair, Fonda
