United Health Services is taking steps to transfer ownership of its Senior Living at Ideal operations in Endicott.

UHS plans to sell the facilities to Upstate Services Group, a privately-owned company based in Rockland County.

In a statement, UHS noted the company is an experienced nursing home provider in Broome County. The firm now provides services at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and at Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Binghamton.

UHS said Upstate Services Group has filed a certificate of need application with the state. It could take six to twelve months for the application to be approved. Financial details of the transaction were not released.

During the review process, the companies plan to work together for a "seamless transition of care."

Ideal administrator Michele Gordon is to remain in that post under the new ownership. All employees have been assured they will continue to be able to work for Upstate Services Group. A UHS representative declined to say how many people work at Ideal.

UHS president and CEO John Carrigg said Upstate Services Group "will be able to offer care more efficiently and cost-effectively" because of its "purchasing power and other advantages" in the state marketplace.

UHS Senior Living at Ideal has a 150-bed skilled nursing facility and 70 assisted living/adult care beds. It also has 33 independent apartments. The campus is located on High Avenue in Endicott.

Upstate Services Group representatives were not available to comment on Tuesday.
