U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York wants to make sure projects like the development of lithium batteries at Binghamton University and private partner, C4V get technical and commercial help to prosper.

The Democrat was in Broome County February 28 at the Center of Excellence at Binghamton University to announce the Made in American Manufacturing Communities Act 2022 to help industry and academia work together to spur manufacturing in America.

The measure would have the Secretary of Commerce to designate consortiums like the one pairing B.U. with C4V in lithium battery development and marketing as “Manufacturing Communities” that would be eligible for federal financial and technical assistance.  Supporters say the measure not only supports new technology but also helps small and start-up businesses get a let up in accessing a wide array of grants and investments.  Gillibrand also is looking to improve the country’s position in global manufacturing of goods like lithium batteries.
