Two former Town of Chenango public officials are being remembered.

Former Broome County Sheriff Deputy and Town Justice Thorold “T.J.” Smith passed away December 19 at the age of 87.

According to an obituary placed by the family, Smith was a sheriff’s deputy for ten years and served 44-years as Town Justice.  He owned a lumber yard and construction company.

A memorial service is planned for January 4 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Chenango Bridge on River Road.

Former Zoning Board chairman, Chenango Forks High School English Teacher and owner of Don Phillips Plumbing, Donald Phillips passed away December 30.  He was 74.

According to the obituary placed by the family, Phillis was also an off-ice official for Binghamton pro hockey teams.  He was also well known for his elaborate holiday displays on Upper Front Street.

The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home on East Main Street in Endicott from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. January 3.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. January 4 at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church at 43 Baxter St., Binghamton.
