Tioga Alum Honored for Heroic Actions at Duquesne Basketball Game
Travis Moyer, a former student athlete of Tioga Central School District from the class of 2014, made headlines recently for his heroic actions at a Duquesne women's basketball game.
As an athletic trainer at Duquesne, Moyer played a pivotal role in saving the life of a fan who experienced a life-threatening medical emergency during the game.
A Life-Threatening Situation
In January, a fan named Ed Wesolowski collapsed at a Duquesne women’s basketball game. The Duquesne basketball medical team quickly stepped in to help. Wesolowski had a serious heart attack called a widow-maker heart attack, which affects an important artery in the heart. This kind of heart attack can be deadly and needs quick and effective medical care.
The Critical Intervention
When Wesolowski collapsed, Moyer and the medical team quickly worked together to save his life. They used the emergency plans they had practiced for, even though they hadn't used them before.
Gratitude of the Rescued
Wesolowski's wife, Katie, remembered the scary moment and was very thankful for how fast and well Moyer and the medical team helped. Their quick actions and good judgment saved Wesolowski's life, and he was very grateful for everything they did.
Heroic Response
Moyer reflected on the events, highlighting the unique nature of the situation and the significance of remaining composed and following protocol in such critical moments.
Even though the situation was unusual, Moyer mentioned that the team's ability to recognize the severity of the situation and act accordingly ultimately saved Wesolowski's life, leaving him feeling extremely thankful for their efforts.

Travis Moyer and the medical team at the Duquesne women's basketball game acted fast and it made a big difference in saving a fan's life. They stayed calm and knew what to do in a tense and urgent situation. This shows how important it is to have well-trained staff at sports events.
