Thunderstorms Possible for Twin Tiers

Backyard gardeners may be looking for a little relief from Mother Nature for dry conditions but even with elevated humidity in the air, the potential for a soaking rain remains very low.

Still, the National Weather Service in Binghamton says, while no severe storms are expected, a little unsettled weather could shake things up a little later July 22.

Clusters of showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon and last into the evening. Gusty winds and heavy rainfall will be the main threats. However, a few storms may produce damaging wind gusts.

The National Weather Service says additional scattered thunderstorms will develop in the Southern Tier, Northeast Pennsylvania and the southern Catskills Thursday afternoon and evening. These storms have the potential to become strong to severe.

For the Binghamton area, NOAA was predicting about a 60% chance of shower and thunderstorm activity through July 23 in the afternoon, dropping to about 30% in the evening, then a dry weekend with high temperatures in the 80s to around 90.
