The Truth About Working From Home Is Pretty Sobering
How many times have you thought that it would be amazing to be able to work from home? Seriously, what could be better than not having to worry about what to wear or about doing your hair? You could slip out of bed and into the office. padding around in slippers and a robe, sipping on coffee, and nobody would care because there wouldn't be anyone to look at you.
Unfortunately, working from home isn't even remotely what it's cracked up to be, something more and more people are discovering.
According to Moneyish, people who work from home are actually putting in more hours and doing more actual work than people who work in an office setting. It sounds crazy, but it's the truth. Experts say that the reason is that people who work from home have a hard time turning off the work switch and literally walking away from work.
Alan Felstead is a professor at Cardiff University and told Moneyish, “Traditionally, we have had spatial boundaries made for us by offices, shops, and factories, which means that home and other places of leisure are separated from work. However remote work blurs those lines and workers have to reinstate boundaries. That is often why it is difficult [for employees] to switch off.”
So, about that idea that it might be awesome to work from home...yeah, maybe not so much.
