The 42-year old was involved in a three wide battle when his car veered off track and slammed into an ARMCO barrier. The impact caused his vehicle to burst into flames before rolling back onto the racing surface, where it was struck by another car.

Driver Alert, Rushed to Hospital for Evaluation

Track safety officials were quick to respond, helping Friesen out of his burning car. According to race officials, Friesen was alert and talking with emergency personnel before being transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Frightening Moment Caught During Feature Event

The crash occurred during the feature race, as Friesen appeared to wash high out of Turn 2, making unprotected contact with a concrete wall. The impact launched the car into the air. Once it landed, flames erupted as it rolled back into traffic, ultimately being hit by another driver. The red flag was thrown immediately and the race was paused for a lengthy delay.

Stewart Friesen Faces Long Recovery After Serious Crash

Stewart Friesen’s wife, Jess, has shared an emotional update following Stewart’s serious crash. While CT scans thankfully ruled out any head, neck, or spine injuries, Stewart is facing a long road ahead after suffering a severe pelvic fracture and a broken right leg, both of which will require surgery.

Jess expressed deep gratitude to everyone who’s been sending prayers, to those who stayed by Stewart’s side through the night, and to the track and safety crews who helped get him out of the car. Stewart’s in stable condition and resting, but he’s still in a lot of pain. Jess promised more updates to come and thanked everyone for their continued support during this incredibly difficult time.

Veteran Racer Has Deep Roots in Both NASCAR and Dirt Racing

Friesen is no stranger to dirt tracks, but he’s also been a consistent presence in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series since 2017. He currently drives the No. 52 Toyota for his own Halmar Friesen Racing team. In 2024, he has one win, six top-10 finishes, and three top-5s in 16 Truck Series starts, sitting 13th in the points standings.

Friesen Recently Disqualified, Planning to Appeal

Just days before the crash, Friesen finished third in the TSport 200 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. However, NASCAR later disqualified him after his truck failed post-race technical inspection due to a height violation. Friesen announced on social media that he’s appealing the ruling, stating that the infraction may have been caused by a part failure during the race.

Family and Fans Rally Around Friesen

Friesen lives in Sprakers, a quiet town northeast of Cooperstown, with his wife, Jessica. A statement shared by his team expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support: “Stewart is alert and talking, and he has been transported to a local hospital following an incident during the Super DIRTcar King of the North race at Autodrome Drummond. Thank you for all the comments and messages of concern and compassion.”
