The New York State Department of Transportation has issued an alert to all motorists regarding the closure of State Route 79 in the Town of Colesville, Broome County.

The closure spans approximately 1,000 feet east of the Interstate 88 interchange to the intersection with Main Street and is expected to remain in effect until further notice. This inconvenience is necessary to facilitate a culvert repair, a process that is anticipated to last several weeks.

During this period, motorists are advised to follow the posted detours. Westbound drivers are requested to take Main Street through the Hamlet of Harpursville to State Route 7 westbound, and then return to State Route 79. Eastbound motorists are urged to take State Route 7 eastbound to Main Street in Harpursville and then return to State Route 79.

Motorists should also be mindful that fines for speeding in work zones are doubled. Additionally, the New York State Department of Transportation emphasizes the importance of observing safety measures, reminding all drivers to slow down and move over for highway workers.
