Authorities say a Broome County government security officer apparently shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in Harupursville.

According to New York State Police, troopers and Broome County sheriff's deputies were sent to a home on Light Road after a person called 911 to report a shooting around 10 p.m. Friday, June 19.

Investigators determined 38-year-old Timothy Wilcox shot his estranged wife and then shot himself.

35-year-old Meghan Wilcox was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where she was reported in critical condition.

Timothy Wilcox was transported to Wilson and then flown to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. He was listed in critical condition.

Officials say Wilcox is employed as a peace officer with the Broome County Security Division.

State police say a 16-year-old who was in the home at the time of the shootings was not injured.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar's office issued a brief statement about the incident Saturday evening. The statement said the incident is under investigation by state police and "our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this tragic time."
