Schumer Calls for Reversal of Recent Postal Service Changes

Senator Charles Schumer and six of his colleagues want prompt action to address new policies that have adversely affected United States Postal Service operations.

In a letter to the Postal Service Board of Governors, the senators said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy "appears to be engaged in a partisan effort" with President Trump's support to "degrade mail service."

Schumer and the other Democratic senators contend since DeJoy started work last spring, he has taken "numerous actions that threaten the service and the integrity of the Postal Service."

The letter maintains the postmaster general's moves have affected the ability of people to keep in touch with their friends and family, and to obtain prescription drugs.

The message also indicates the actions "threaten the ability of Americans to vote in the 2020 elections."

The letter says hours have been reduced at some post offices and overtime has been denied to some workers. It also says mailboxes and sorting machines have been decommissioned.

DeJoy has agreed to appear before a House committee next week to discuss changes in postal service operations.
