Republicans Pick Zeldin for NY Governor

New York Republicans have their pick for the next Governor but, in spite of getting the G.O.P. nomination at the party’s statewide convention on Long Island, Congressman Lee Zeldin will be facing a battle in the upcoming primary.

The party faithful have been gathering this week in Garden City, Long Island to outline their platform in the off-season elections and name candidates in redrawn congressional districts, state offices and for the upcoming election for a full term for Governor of New York.

Other Republican candidates seeking to replace Democrat Kathy Hochul in the Governor’s mansion include businessman Harry Wilson, who is heavily advertising on Southern Tier television stations, former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and the son of former President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudolph Giuliani: Andrew Giuliani, who, according to a report by Politico, complained, “President Trump has not been invoked at all, in a Republican convention.”

In the first two days of the convention, Republicans have been touting diversity while blasting disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Republicans have nominated Joe Pinion to face Senate Majority Leader and decades-long New York politician Charles Schumer. Politico reports he is the first Black to get a New York major party’s endorsement for U.S. Senate.

New York’s Primary Election is June 28 with the General Election November 8.
