As some of you know, I've been a basketball official for over 30 years and I've loved every minute of it and as I get older, I appreciate it even more. There are many good things about being an official that make it worthwhile. We are in the middle of the Unified basketball season and if you have a chance to see these youngsters play, it'll bring joy to your heart.

Another thing I love about being a referee, is being a part of the Police Week Charity Basketball Tournament. It takes place this Saturday, May 16th at the Johnson City Middle School as local police departments battle it out on the hardwood for a good cause. The games begin at 1p.m. in both Johnson City Middle School Gyms with the finals at 5 p.m., and I'll be officiating the 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. games.

Police Week Charity Basketball Tournament In Johnson City

The tournament picks a different charity or cause and this year, it will benefit the family of Ryan Bunce. He was an investigator for the Tioga County Sheriffs Office and all the proceeds will go to his widow Cassidy Bunce and their two small children.
