First they were banned, then they came back. But don't get used to those supermarket plastic bags.

From of social distancing to wearing a masks to toilet paper shortages, shopping for food and more has been an adventure in so many ways during the coronavirus pandemic. This includes the back and forth on plastic bags for carrying your groceries.

Right before the pandemic they were banned, and then they returned for sanitary reasons so we did not have to bring our own bags to the supermarket. Their return will not be forever though. According to a press release from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) they will eventually resume enforcing the ban, which is still in place. The earliest this will happen will be mid-June, but one could assume that could be extended depending on how the pandemic plays out in the coming weeks.

Lets hope we are soon trading in our masks and hand sanitizer for our own shopping bags to lug our groceries around. It will be one of the small signs we are getting back to normal. It will be nice to get back to more trivial things like complaining about how inconvenient it is to not have bags available at our local stores!
