Kathy Whyte/WNBF News [file][/caption]Authorities say people required to be registered as sex offenders have been getting calls from someone claiming to be a law enforcement official saying they are not in compliance with their registration.  The scammer tells the person everything can be resolved with some sort of cash card or money transfer. If they don’t comply, the caller tells them they could be arrested and a warrant has been issued for them.

Authorities say anyone getting such a call should not engage in any financial transaction.  The Pennsylvania State Police does not contact sex offenders for any kind of monetary compensation to gain compliance with registration requirements.  Any compliance issues would be resolved by the offender appearing at a registration site or through personal contact with law enforcement.

Offenders getting suspected scam calls or who have questions about their compliance should contact Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law Section at 1-866-771-3170.
