Classes were held as usual at Owego Free Academy on Tuesday after officials investigated a potential threat toward high school students, faculty and staff.

In a statement, Owego Apalachin School Superintendent Corey Green wrote the threat was deemed to be non-credible.

The letter to parents and residents indicated the investigation was launched after school officials on Monday afternoon learned of photos which had been posted on social media.

Green said administrators "addressed the issue with the student involved" and with the student's parents. New York State Police were advised of the matter and they conducted their own investigation, "meeting with the student and the student's family late into the evening."

The superintendent said by the early-morning hours of Tuesday, officials concluded there is "no credible threat" to the school district, its students or employees.

Green said counselors and administrators at Owego Free Academy would be available to speak with students who had questions or concerns about the situation. Parents were advised to contact school principal Heath Georgia if they had questions.
