Because of the lack of rain, we are being asked to conserve water. Right now it is voluntary. The NYS Department of Conservation issued a "Drought Watch" on July 15th. You are being encouraged to conserve water.

The Utilities Department may upgrade the restrictions to mandatory if conditions get worse. So they hope that by conserving water now, they can put off the mandatory restrictions as long as possible.

In Endicott, the ground water levels are very low because of the lack of rain. So residents are being asked not to wash your car, fill your swimming pool, and not to water your lawn. You are also asked to limit laundry washing and any unnecessary water use.

In Owego, the town wells have dropped around 15% since May. They are also asking that you restrict your water usage until further notice.

We hear that we may have rain over the next couple of days but it may not be enough. Conserve as much as possible. Hey kids, if you're looking to get out of getting out of taking a shower, here is the excuse you've been looking for!
