NY COVID Rate at Record Low/ Broome Takes Vaccines to the Zoo

As New York hits its lowest positivity rate since the start of the pandemic at.38%, the state is starting to downscale the number of vaccination sites.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday, June 18 that the state will close down sites in Corning, Oneonta, Potsdam and New York College in Queens to focus on getting more shots to underserved communities.

The Broome County Health Department is reporting small COVID-19 vaccination clinics are being held around the region as the large vaccination center at SUNY Broome Community College closed earlier this month.

June 21 a clinic for the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine will be held from 11:05 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ross Park Zoo on Morgan Road on the South Side of the City of Binghamton. Another J&J clinic will be held Thursday, June 24 at the Whitney Point High School from 2 to 5 p.m. For information go to www.gobroomecounty.com.

State officials over the weekend reported 70.9% of adult New Yorkers over the age of 18 had gotten at least one dose of a vaccine. The percentage of all New Yorkers, that include those 12 to 17 that are the latest eligible for a shot, that have gotten at least the first dose is put at 56.6% and 50.8% with a complete series.

The Governor has not said where New York will open new sites but says the announcement will be in “coming weeks.”
