$25-million in state funding is going to food banks across New York dealing with new food insecurity from the pandemic.

The Southern Tier Region is getting $1.1-million while the Finger Lakes, including a portion of the Southern Tier, is getting $1.7-million through the Nourish New York Initiative.

The initiative has been introduced to quickly route New York surplus agriculture products to the populations that need them through the state network of food banks.Services like the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse, or CHOW, have found their supplies of food to meet the normal demands in the community were quickly wiped out as businesses closed and people were laid off or furloughed due to the coronavirus and school children were forced to stay home starting in mid-March.
