How New Yorkers are Reworking Their Wardrobes in the Face of Rising Costs
Hey New York fashion fans! With the holiday season here, a recent consumer shopping report saw a shift happening in the world of fashion. The rising costs of living are inspiring New Yorkers to change their approach to shopping and style.
We all love looking good in our clothes. The average person has enough clothes to put together 135 different looks. Think about that - that's the average, so that means more than half have over 135 different clothing combinations.
Despite spending around $1,500 annually on clothing, 58% of us are feeling the impact of the current cost-of-living challenges. The report reveals the problems that many of us are facing. 61% are saying that inflation is deflating their style game by limiting our wardrobe options.
This has led to a rise in second-hand shopping - which I love and agree with. Nearly one in three of us are turning to thrift stores for unique finds (shop local), and almost one in five plan to stay away from new purchases in 2025 to cut down on spending.
It's no secret that social media plays a big role in our fashion choices, with 87% pointing the blame at it for an increase in our spending. But fear not my friends, a new trend is here - "underconsumption."
Over half of us are now embracing the idea of making the most of what we already have/ So, whether you're hitting the stores or scrolling through your social feeds, the world of fashion is changing in response to our economy.
