New York’s Tolls: What You Need to Know
If you have ever gone on a trip of any length, then you've encountered the toll roads. It's your chance to have the honor of driving on their roads at a price. It can be difficult getting around them sometimes, so you just pay the price and you are on your way.
If you've driven in New York and especially into New York City, you have definitely felt the pinch of toll costs at some point. Did you know that according to a recent study by Suzuki Law Offices, New York ranks as the fifth state with the highest toll prices?

The average price per toll was $7.20, so it's not the priciest, but it is definitely up there compared to some other states. I'm actually surprised that it's not higher especially with the cost to travel into the Big Apple.
So, How Does New York Compare?
Maine takes the crown for the cheapest tolls in the U.S., with drivers paying only $1.33 per pass or 8 cents per mile. On the other hand, Alaska is the leader of pack as the costliest state, with an average toll of $10.63. That's quite a jump from New York's $7.20 average toll cost.
Keeping Costs in Check and Planning Ahead
Given the different toll costs across states, it's important that you plan your route ahead of time, especially when traveling through toll-heavy areas. By choosing toll-free alternatives or being aware of the toll prices, you can save some hard-earned cash along the way.
