First, WalletHub froze the city of Utica (home of the Comets) out of consideration entirely among its listing of Top Hockey Towns, and now our whole state is getting snubbed.

Just in in time for the July 4th holiday, the financial services website has published its study of 2019's Most Patriotic States in America. The Empire State almost hit rock bottom, which is hard to believe. Come on. We have the Statue of Liberty, for crying out loud. Also the Empire State Building, which turns red, white and blue on the 4th. And we helped bring the nation together after the tragic events of 9/11. How can New York be ranked so low in patriotism? Let's investigate...

The study's two main headings of Military Engagement and Civic Engagement were comprised of 13 different relevant metrics. Factors like voter turnout, volunteerism, and veterans per capita were all considered.

New York was only #44 in Civic Engagement. And, New York finished #49 in Military Engagement, maybe because the state ranked among the worst for Military Retirees.

The most patriotic states in this study were New Hampshire, Wyoming and Vermont. The only state ranked lower overall than New York was New Jersey.
