Halloween will be here on Thursday and I thought it might be fun to take a look at iconic Halloween characters. Whether you're a fan of ghosts, goblins, mummies, vampires, werewolves, witches, or zombies, maybe like me, it's Tigger. There's a character for everyone to love or fear.

But wait, what's the most popular Halloween character in New York, you ask? Well, according to a study by CCW Safe, it turns out that the most iconic Halloween character in the Empire State is...drumroll please. It's Tigger! Just kidding, it's the clown!

It seems that the jolly jester is stealing the show in New York when it comes to Halloween icon popularity. And while some of us might find clowns entertaining, others find them downright terrifying. Butt hat's what Halloween is all about, right? Embracing the spooky and strange.

But what about the rest of the states? The clown also reigns supreme in Pennsylvania, making it the top Halloween icon in that neck of the woods too. And if you're curious, it seems aliens are popular in North Dakota...cue the X-Files theme!

As for New York, well, it looks like we'll be seeing our fair share of clown costumes and makeup this Halloween. Get ready to paint on those smiles or frowns and unleash your inner circus performer as we get ready for a Halloween filled with laughs  and maybe a dash of the unexpected.

So, whether you're  trick-or-treating or going to a spine-tingling Halloween bash, one thing's for sure - it's time to make way for the clowns of New York...and no, I'm not talking about our politicians here.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
