New York Ranks Among States With the Highest Share of Deadly Hit and Run Crashes

New York Ranks High for Hit and Run Deaths

The study looked at crash data from 2019 through 2024. During that time, over 570 people were killed in hit and run crashes in New York. The researchers found that nearly 10% of all traffic deaths in the state happened in crashes where the driver left the scene. That gave New York the seventh highest percentage in the nation.
