The Soup New Yorkers Crave Most When the Weather Turns Cold
Once the temperatures start dropping in New York, you can feel it in your bones. It’s soup season. The sweaters come out, the slow cookers get plugged in, and everyone is craving something warm they can eat with a spoon. And according to a new study, every state has a signature soup it swears by… including some that might surprise you.
How They Figured Out Each State’s Favorite Soup
The team at Mountainside Music Academy put together a list of 30 different soups and then used Google Trends to see which ones people in each state searched for the most this past year. They wanted to know what everyone’s really craving when the weather gets chilly and dinner needs to be easy.
New York’s Go-To Soup
New Yorkers reach for chicken noodle soup more than anything else. It’s simple. It’s comforting. It tastes like childhood sick days, snowstorms, and every grandma’s kitchen rolled into one.

But because New York is New York, we also have a long list of honorable mentions. You’ll find tomato soup lovers dipping grilled cheese, chowder fans who won’t touch anything unless it’s thick enough to stand a spoon in, and ramen diehards always know the best late-night spot.
The Rest of the Country Has Some Surprising Favorites
While New York keeps things classic, other states are more adventurous. Some lean into spicy soups, others love creamy ones, and a few go totally unexpected with choices you’d never guess in a thousand years. To see how different the cravings get once you cross a state line, go here.
