New York Named One of America’s Most Charitable States
New Yorkers have a big heart when it comes to helping others, according to a new study from Hard Rock Bet. They ranked New York as the fifth most charitable state in America. It looked at food banks, volunteer work, charitable tax deductions, and online searches for ways to help others.
New York Has 10 Food Banks
New York is home to 10 food banks connected with Feeding America. That puts the state fourth in the country for the number of food banks. Food banks help families and people who need help putting meals on the table. They also work with local pantries and other groups in communities across New York.
Nearly One in Four New Yorkers Volunteer
The study found that 23.8% of New Yorkers do formal volunteer work. That means nearly one in four people give their time to help a group, charity, school, church, or community program. Volunteers help in many ways. They pack food, help at events, care for animals, visit seniors, and support their neighbors when they need it most.
Many New Yorkers Are Looking for Ways to Help
The study also found strong interest in giving back. New Yorkers made an average of 65,800 monthly Google searches for charity related terms, including “volunteering opportunities near me.” That shows many people across the state are looking for a way to pitch in.
California Took the Top Spot
California was ranked as the most charitable state in the study, followed by Texas, Indiana, and Ohio. New York came in at number five, ahead of Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Utah, and Virginia.
