SUNY students are being utilized to get their classmates to comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines in an effort to keep campuses open.

Chancellor Jim Malatras has been meeting with administrators and students at campuses across the state as fall semester classes have started amid the pandemic.

Malatras said a new campaign - called "Mask Up or Pack Up" - will give state university students a platform to send "powerful, persuasive messages" urging others to take steps to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Students may submit videos that focus on the importance of mask-wearing, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.

SUNY has an online "case tracker" database that provides current COVID-19 testing information for all 64 colleges and universities.

SUNY Oneonta canceled in-person fall semester classes after more than 100 students tested positive for COVID-19.
