New York’s Most Popular Baby Names of the Last Year
The results are in and we now know not only the most popular baby names in the United States, but the most popular baby names in New York.
According to the latest data from the Social Security Administration, Liam and Olivia have once again secured their positions as the most popular baby names in the United States for the fifth consecutive year. With 20,802 baby boys named Liam and 15,270 baby girls named Olivia, these names continue to dominate the national charts.
The report also revealed that Noah and Emma maintained their positions as the runners-up, also for the fifth year running. Remarkably, the list of most popular names has remained consistently stable, with only one new entry breaking into the top ten in 2023 - the name Mateo.
While Liam and Olivia are really popular, other names have gained newfound attention. For boys, names like Chozen and Izael have gained buzz, while Kaeli and Alitzel have made waves for girls.
Interestingly, the data highlights the social trend aspect of naming choices. In some cases, pop culture has played a role in boosting the popularity of previously obscure names. For instance, the fast-growing boy's name Chozen can be attributed to a character from the Netflix show "Cobra Kai." Similarly, the rise of Kaeli as a girl's name may have been inspired by TikTok star Kaeli McEwen.
Liam and Olivia may be the most popular baby names across the country but what about New York? For boys, the top five most popular names are Liam, Noah, Lucas, David, and Joseph. For girls, the top five most popular baby names are Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Mia, and Amelia.
