The Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier (MHAST), will start National Suicide Prevention Month with an event to bring awareness to their many programs and services.

This would have been the 18th annual “Men Who Cook” event, an amateur chef competition and public tasting event, which has been MHAST’s biggest fundraiser.

However because of the pandemic, the event was revised to a virtual event called “Men Who Care” which is a video presentation from fifteen chefs, talking about the stress of COVID, and offering education and support for our community.

You can watch the video presentation of “Food for Thought” launching tonight at 7pm on  www.mhast.org

I spoke with Joanne Weir, Development Director for the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier on WNBF’s Binghamton Now.

Joanne says “being Suicide Prevention Month, we have to be aware that middle aged men are one of the most vulnerable copulation's, and we’re really offering some pier support”

I ask Joanne what would you like to say to anyone who is struggling with mental health issues.

She said “ You not alone, no one is an island out here, there are people who can help, there are people who care”.

MHAST works with many community organizations to put together educational programs including webinars and other outlets that support and strengthen the community.
