People in the Southern Tier know what disaster is. People here know what it's like to have it all one day and then watch it drift away the next.  People know what it's like to fall and have to crawl back up, which is why I love the concept behind the 'Metal for the Mission' initiative.

Ben Weistman and Son Recycling say that customers at their Binghamton and Owego locations who bring in metal for sale can ask that their payment be given instead to the Red Cross through the 'Metal for the Mission' project, which will run through June.

Red Cross officials say that all proceeds of scrap metal sales given to 'Metal for the Mission' will stay in Central New York and will help their disaster response operations, which include offering assistance in following house fires.  Ben Weistman and Son will also be donating $25,000 to our local chapter of the Red Cross to help the 'Metal for the Mission' project.
