I bet that my Irish ancestors who survived long, cold winters by eating potatoes never in their wildest dreams imagined that once day someone would use what they ate to survive as a vessel to drop weight.

Andrew Flinders is from Australia and he's vowed to eat nothing but potatoes every day for all of 2016 as part of a quest that he's calling the “Spud Fit” experiment.

Flinders is almost two months into the challenge and already has lost 22 pounds. He says that he doesn't mind potatoes, but the real reason he's doing this is because he wants to tackle and win the battle he's been fighting against food addiction.

Of course, health experts don’t think Flinder's plan is all that fantastic. As a matter of fact, they don't think his decision is healthy or sustainable. Experts say the body needs 40 different nutrients and there isn’t one since food – not even potatoes – that will give a person all 40 of them.
