Detective Captain John Ryan said no suspects were in custody in connection with the shooting. He said the man who had been shot was 27 years old.

Ryan would not confirm that the man had died. But a family member said the man, who was a Binghamton resident, died at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. The relative said the man had four young children.

A man who was working at a nearby convenience store at the time of the shooting said he heard up to five gunshots. Moments later, a woman entered the business and yelled for him to call 911.

Three people who may have been involved in the shooting were reported to have been seen leaving the area in a car that was headed north on Walnut Street.

Main Street between Chapin and Walnut streets was closed until about 10 a.m. for the police investigation.

People attending the Sunday worship service at Redeemer Lutheran Church east of the shooting scene had to duck under yellow crime scene tape to enter the building.

It was not known whether the shooting was linked to Thursday's incident near 101 Murray Street in which several gunshots were fired during a dispute. No one was reported hurt in that shooting.

Binghamton High School and Seton Catholic Central High School were placed on lockdown after the Thursday shooting.
