A Chenango County man is accused of being involved in a break-in early February 18 at a commercial building on Genesee Street in the Village of Greene and other burglaries.

Matthew Jones of Greene is accused of climbing a ladder and breaking a window at the business shortly after 4:30. Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies and Village of Greene Police Officers chased him on foot and found a defaced a loaded 45 caliber pistol, holster and mask dumped in a garbage can.

A search of Jones’ South Canal Street home found another defaced handgun, methamphetamine, marijuana and items stolen from other burglaries.

Jones is charged with two felony counts each of burglary, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Jones was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.
