Paving crews are busy with nighttime operations as they put the finishing touches on a $2.9 million redesign of a section of Route 17C in the town of Union.

The work is being done on a 1.3-mile portion of East Main Street from Arthur Avenue in Endicott to Hooper Road in Endwell.

Drivers have encountered narrow lanes and traffic pattern changes in the construction zone over the last several weeks.

Milling of the roadway was done during the daytime but the paving portion of the project has been taking place during the late night and early morning hours.

After the resurfacing work has been finished, pavement markings will be applied to designate one driving lane in either direction and a center lane for left turns.

A sidewalk was added between Hooper Road and Kent Avenue. Several curb ramps were reconstructed to meet federal accessibility regulations.
