Long Distance Dating Is Becoming Normal for New Yorkers
Dating someone who lives far away used to sound really hard. But for many people in New York, it is starting to feel pretty normal. A new study shows that many singles are willing to travel, move, and put in a lot of effort if they think they have found the right person.
Many Singles Are Open to Dating From Far Away
A matchmaking company called Tawkify surveyed 1,000 single adults across the country. They found that about 65 percent of people are open to dating someone who does not live nearby. With dating apps and social media, meeting people far away is easier than ever.
Lots of People Would Move for Love
One of the biggest surprises in the study was how many people would relocate for the right partner. Almost 85 percent of singles said they would move if the relationship felt right. For many people, finding the right person matters more than staying in the same place.

Travel Adds Up Fast
Long distance dating can also get expensive. Some people in the study said they take more than 10 trips a year just to see their partner. Many spend between 150 and 300 dollars each trip, and some even spend more than 600 dollars. For New Yorkers who already deal with high travel and living costs, that can be a big commitment.
Some Are Willing to Wait a Long Time
Almost half of the people surveyed said they would stay in a long distance relationship for a year or more before needing to live closer together. More than half also said they would date for at least a month before even meeting in person.
Effort Matters More Than Distance
When asked about deal breakers, the biggest one was not distance. It was effort. Over 55 percent said that not trying hard enough is what would end a relationship the fastest. That means making time for each other really matters, especially when you cannot see each other every day.
