A Johnson City park has been locked down following the latest wave of vandalism.

Mayor Greg Deemie said Floral Avenue Park will remain closed "until further notice."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Thursday, Deemie said the park on the village's South Side has been under a lock down for the past couple of weeks.

The mayor said "certain individuals decided they wanted to graffiti-up all our playground equipment." He said vandals threw garbage "all over the place." They also broke into the pool house and tossed items into the pool.

Deemie said village employees were constantly cleaning up messes and removing graffiti at the park. He expressed frustration with the ongoing vandalism problem, saying "it's been a struggle."

The mayor said this isn't the first time he's locked down Floral Avenue Park. He said he took similar action a few years ago due to repeated problems.

Deemie said he didn't know when he would order the park to be reopened.
