Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood’s ‘If I Didn’t Love You’ Takes Video of the Year at the 2022 CMT Music Awards
Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood were the winners of the biggest award of the night at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday (April 11). They won the Video of the Year trophy for the music video for their hit song, "If I Didn't Love You."
"This one is all about the fans," Underwood said, speaking first after the video's second win of the night. She then turned it to Aldean, who recognized a major career accomplishment.
"Seventeen years in the game and this is the first time I ever won Video of the Year," he remarked, "so this is pretty amazing to me."
Underwood, on the other hand, has now won nine Video of the Year awards, including the last four.
"The fact that you guys still care about us this many years into our career to vote for us ... means the world to me," Aldean said in closing. "I'm pretty sure I picked the perfect partner for this song."
To claim the Video of the Year win, the song beat Kane Brown's "One Mississippi" and Cody Johnson's "'Til You Can't." Just three songs were named finalists for the prize, and fans voted throughout Monday night's CMT Music Awards to decide the winner.
Aldean and Underwood's power ballad quickly became a massive hit after they released it in 2021, topping country music charts and becoming a frequent choice for awards show performances. The song was previously named ACM Single of the Year.
The two stars' win also represents something of a hot streak for Underwood, who also won Video of the Year at the 2021 CMT Music Awards for her duet with John Legend, "Hallelujah." She currently holds more CMT Music Awards trophies than any other artist.
The Video of the Year category narrowed its six finalists from an original 12, before narrowing to three on Monday morning. Earlier contenders in the category were Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Kacey Musgraves, Mickey Guyton, Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift and Chris Stapleton.
The 2022 CMT Music Awards broadcasted live from Nashville on CBS. This year marked the first time that the awards show has aired on a major network.
