A fast-growing national chain of sub shops has started operations at another location in the Binghamton area.

The Jersey Mike's Subs shop at 2540 Vestal Parkway East opened its doors Wednesday morning.

It's the third Jersey Mike's unit in Broome County. The first local franchised operation opened in July 2021 on Upper Front Street in the town of Chenango. A second location was launched last January at University Plaza on the Vestal Parkway, near the Binghamton city line.

James Shea, the general manager of the newly-opened shop, said it will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Shea said things were a "little slow to start" right after the opening, likely because of the rainy weather. Business picked up with a "bit of a lunch rush."

Shea said the new location has a larger seating area than the shop at the eastern end of Vestal with a capacity for 30 people. He said about 18 people have been hired to work at the location.

According the company's website, there now are more than 2,000 Jersey Mike's locations. No future locations have been announced for Broome County.
