The dining room is open at Phil's Chicken House and a Broome County tradition continues six decades after it began.

The restaurant on Route 26 in West Corners has been popular since Phillip Card Sr. opened it in August 1965. He operated the business until he retired in 2007. Card died in July 2023. His son, Kevin, took over the eatery after his father's retirement.

The restaurant has been known for serving rotisserie chicken and an array of other foods.

Kevin Card said Phil's Chicken House continues to operate at the original location Tuesday through Sunday.

The restaurant's dining room closed in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic with operations shifting to take-out or curbside pickup.

Card said the dining room has reopened, although there's no table service. Customers place their order at the counter and then dine inside when their food is ready.

Although things are different now than in the past, Card said patrons are getting acclimated to the setup.

Card said catering continues to be an important part of the business.

Phil's Chicken House turned 60 years old last month. While there was no big celebration to mark that milestone, the restaurant continues to serve many of the same customers its had for decades.
