Otsiningo Park Cleanup Continues After Widespread Storm Damage
Broome County's most popular park remains closed following the brief but powerful storm that raced through the region just before the holiday weekend.
Otsiningo Park in the town of Dickinson sustained significant damage from the winds and hail that accompanied the storm.
Dozens of trees and and limbs were brought down Thursday afternoon but there was no serious damage to buildings or infrastructure in the park.
County parks director Brenda Gowe said department workers are busy with the massive cleanup project.
It's not known when the main section of Otsiningo Park accessible from Bevier Street will reopen. The dog park and portions of the trail at Otsiningo North in the town of Chenango are open.
County Executive Jason Garnar told WNBF News the goal is to reopen the main park by this weekend but "that's going to be a pretty monumental task considering how much damage" occurred.
Garnar said the Broome Bands Together concert that had been scheduled for Tuesday evening has been postponed. The concert featuring The Remnant band has been rescheduled for September 2.
