
Binghamton Welcomes Captain Griswold As Fire Marshal
Today, August 14, 2025, the appointment of a new City of Binghamton Fire Marshal was announced.
According to a release from City of Binghamton Mayor Jared M. Kraham, the new appointee as Binghamton's Fire Marshall is Captain Arthur J. Griswold.

Captain Griswold has been with the Binghamton Fire Department for 19 years and, since 2022, has served as the Assistant Fire Marshal. Griswold became Acting Fire Marshall this year after the retirement of Timothy M. O'Neill.
Before becoming a Captain, Griswold was a Lieutenant with the City of Binghamton Fire Department. He served as a firefighter for the Village of Endicott Fire Department from 2001 to 2006.
Fire Marshal Griswold brings years of leadership experience and fire prevention expertise to this role. As Assistant and Acting Fire Marshal, he built a track record of working closely and effectively alongside the Office of Building Construction and Code Enforcement. His appointment builds on my administration’s work to strengthen public safety and hold problem property owners accountable, while expanding partnerships with small businesses and cutting bureaucratic red tape. - City of Binghamton Jared M. According to Mayor Kraham's announcement, the Fire Marshall leads the department’s Fire Prevention Office, which enforces the New York State Fire Code and handles fire investigations.
Captain Griswold is a graduate of Chenango Valley High School and SUNY Broome.
