A Broome County resident faces felony weapon charges after he allegedly fired a gun and struck an electrical transformer.

Authorities said the town of Kirkwood man was taken into custody following a standoff with police at his home.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to investigate a report of someone driving on the lawn of a Bigelow Street residence around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver reportedly fired a weapon striking a transformer on the property. While fleeing the scene, he struck another vehicle that had pulled into a driveway.

Around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, investigators learned the suspect - identified as 46-year-old Adam Smith - was armed with a weapon outside his home at 32 Krager Road in Kirkwood.
