An employee of a Broome County FedEx facility has been accused of sneaking iPhones out of the place over the last several weeks.

Authorities said 22-year-old Leon Roberts of Endicott has been charged with third-degree grand larceny.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, Roberts had been working at the FedEx center on Industrial Park Drive in the town of Kirkwood.

Sheriff's deputies were sent to the FedEx facility around 4 a.m. on June 20 to investigate a larceny complaint.

The security chief at the site told the deputies that an employee had been stealing from the inventory of iPhones at the center since last April. He apparently was able to get them out of the building by hiding them inside a coat pocket.

Investigators reviewed security camera video before charging Roberts. He was arraigned and issued an appearance ticket for Kirkwood town court.

A sheriff's office news release did not indicate what had happened to the stolen iPhones.

FedEx opened the major distribution center opened in the fall of 2022. The facility was constructed at a site that once had been used by Link and L-3 Communications.
